The Duqm refinery is a strategic investment for the Sultanate of Oman, it will be the foundation for the Duqm Special Economic Zone which would be Oman’s next industrial center. The strategic location of the project gives it a  competitive advantage of being in the path of international shipping lines with close proximity to the Indian Ocean and the Arabian sea.

Alucor provided the EPC, design, manufacturing, testing and inspection of three Sulphur granulation drums for the Petrofac Samsung Joint Venture with the Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries LLC. The fabrication of the gear rings and the thrust rings for the Sulphur granulation drums require a highly specified design, heavy duty performance capabilities and a specialized material requirement. The project was completed in September 2020.

The development occupies more than 2,000 acres and is expected to be completed in 2022. It is estimated to have a capacity to process around 230,000 barrels of crude oil per day with diesel, jet fuel, naphtha and LPG being its primary products. It is expected to give rise to new development projects in the region that may be directly or indirectly interlaced with this project.
